Privacy Notice

This notice explains what personal information Minimum Competence CLE — a service operated by Andrew Leahey, doing business as Minimum Competence CLE — collects, why, and how we handle it.
What we collect
- Account: email address (used for sign-in via a magic link).
- Attorney profile: legal name, primary bar jurisdiction and identification number, New Jersey admission relationship, resident status when relevant, and a reporting email — required for CLE certificates and compliance records.
- Payment: processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store card numbers; we retain checkout and transaction references, amount, and enough state to fulfill or help recover an unfinished checkout.
- Learning & audit records: the course edition delivered, module progress, participation-prompt responses, evaluations, certificates, official attendance-form references, evidence packets, and timestamped audit events — retained as CLE compliance evidence.
- Group-seat records: for manually purchased seat packs, purchaser contact and billing-reference information, agreed price and seat count, and the attorneys who redeem seats.
- Operational messages: recipient, subject, message body, delivery state, and attempts for transactional email that must be deduplicated or retried. Unencrypted confirmation or redemption secrets are not retained in this message ledger.
- Counsel’s Notebook: passages you capture and any notes you add are stored on your account so you can return to and export them. Keep these to legal analysis — please do not enter client-confidential or privileged information. You can delete a note at any time from the Notebook.
Why we use it
To provide the courses, verify participation, issue certificates, meet our CLE accreditation and reporting obligations, process and recover enrollments, send transactional reminders for unfinished account/course steps, administer manually purchased group seats, measure aggregate product operations without advertising trackers, and secure the service.
Public certificate verification
Anyone who has a certificate number can use our verification page. It displays the learner’s legal name, course, completion date, credit details, certificate number, and current valid or revoked status. It does not display an email address, bar identification number, payment details, or participation history.
Who we share it with
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Resend — transactional email (sign-in links, confirmations, course-state reminders, and certificate/approval notices).
- Cloudflare — hosting, database, and video delivery.
- State bar / CLE board — attendance and completion data as required for accreditation and mandatory reporting.
We do not sell your personal information.
Retention
Because CLE providers must retain attendance and completion records (New Jersey requires at least three years, and other jurisdictions may require longer), we retain compliance records for the applicable retention period even if you request deletion of your account. New York reciprocity evidence is designed for a four-year record period. We will delete or de-identify data that is no longer subject to a retention, dispute, security, or legal-hold obligation.
Your choices
You may access and update your attorney profile at any time, and request a copy or deletion of personal data subject to the retention rules above. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies required for sign-in and security. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
